The 2004 edition of the International Vocal Art Meetings of the Festival de Noirlac is a veritable tour of Europe within the heritage of sacred music. The ritual of the Mass that inspired so many composers throughout the centuries is particularly highlighted. Surprising Mass of Antonio Lotti reconstituted by the ensemble Vivete Felici (parallel to the Roman psalm of G.F. Haendel, Dixit Dominus) will follow the lyric Little Solemn Mass of Giocacchino Rossini given by the soloists of Lyon. Mass in C minor of W.A. Mozart, an unfinished masterpiece, will be played by Michel Corboz and the Ensemble de Lausanne before the Psalm 42 by Félix Mendelssohn.
Russia is specially represented this year, explored by many exciting paths. The monumental Vespers of Sergei Rachmaninov will be given by Accentus who will also create the Preludes of Alexander Scriabine for which the Festival de Noirlac, faithful to its policy of command, has requested the transcriptions for choir to composer Gérard Pesson. Great secular cycles of D. Chostakovich and G. Sviridov will be performed by the Chamber Choir Lege artis of St Petersburg. The famous ballets of P.I. Tchaikovsky , Sleeping Beauty and CasseNoisette will be revisited by pianists Brigitte Engerer and Pascal Rogé after a first part of recital dedicated to Johannes Brahms' Hungarian Valses and Dances.
The Festival de Noirlac celebrated the tricentennial Marc-Antoine Charpentier, whose famous Te Deum and his most perfect oratorio, Jean Tubéry will give: The Judgment of Salomon, Oratorio de la masse rouge, a large page of French baroque music.
The arrival of the new orchestra The Philharmonic Chamber in Noirlac as part of its first tour is another highlight of the Festival. Taken by Emmanuel Krivine, this ensemble playing on instruments of the era will give a much awaited Mozart / Schubert program, with soprano Sandrine Piau. They will follow Paul van Nevel's visit of the Huelgas group, who came from the Netherlands to give us a magical program on the theme of chromatism in the Renaissance, a beautiful celebration of color and polyphony in the privileged setting of the abbey.
Another exciting aspect of vocal art, world music, presented at Noirlac this year with the ensemble of Italian women's voices Sanacore. Finally, the two academies of direction and singing always represent, in parallel with the conferences and debates that take place at the Festival, the other important side of the meetings. Michel-Marc Gervais will give a new masterclass week to young chefs from all over the world with the ensemble Les Voix Mêlées, L-Instant Récital and his young soloists will present this year an interesting program around Massenet and Messager.
